(May 17, 2012) Gabriel Motzkin examines the differences between history and memory, event and narrative, and collective and individual memory, and applies this debate to the Holocaust and the ongoing political process in Israel. Then, Abbas Milani discusses Iran's strict imposition of sacred history (and violent prohibition of anything else) as a religious and political effort to control collective memory in his lecture.

The Europe Center, with project partner the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute, hosted the major international conference at Stanford University, aimed to deepen our understanding of disputes over history, and to find ways towards resolving conflictual memory.
